About our Pastor
"This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work." (1 Timothy 3:1)

 

Pastor Greg Thomas was born and raised in the small furniture-producing town of Bassett, Virginia, and was saved by the grace of God at six years of age. Upon graduation from Bassett High School in 1988, he entered the United States Marine Corps where he served in the 9th Communication Battalion heaquartered in Camp Pendleton, California. During his enlistment, Pastor Thomas served seven and a half months during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm as the personal driver for the Battalion Commander and assistant to the Battalion Sergeant Major. Approximately one year prior to his honorable discharge, Pastor Thomas, while on leave back in the Martinsville area, met his wife, Connie. Pastor Thomas concluded his military service back in California and returned to the Martinsville/Henry County area in 1992.

In 1995, Pastor Thomas surrendered to preach the glorious Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, and in 1999, he accepted his first Pastorate at Lighthouse Baptist Church in Bassett, Virginia, on the very same road that he grew up on. During his time there, he graduated from Cornerstone Bible College and afterwards assisted as an instructor. The Lord was gracious, and there were many fond memories during the over seven years with the wonderful people of Lighthouse Baptist Church.

In November 2006, Pastor Thomas accepted the call to come to the South Boston, Virginia, area to become the founding pastor of what is now known as True Light Baptist Church. Pastor Thomas came with the burden and desire to see God do a special work and to put his life and heart in the South Boston, Virginia, area and its people. His desire is to see a Christ-centric, Bible-centric local church built for the glory of God and Him alone!

Pastor Thomas takes the following verse as his life verse:

These things I have written unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. (John 16:33)  

Pastor Thomas and Ms. Connie are blessed with three wonderful children, Miranda, Victoria, and Nathaniel, and they look forward to what the Lord has in store for the ministry of True Light Baptist Church.
